Developing Language Comprehension
Utilizing a multisensory approach (listening, looking, touching), the 40 complete lessons in this book are designed to develop students' comprehension and memory. With this technique, students learn to form mental images of important information that will facilitate later recall.
Each of the 40 lessons consists of three pages:
- Page 1 is a step-by-step guide to be used by the teacher. This guide includes instructions to the student, suggested presentation text, picture references for teachers to follow, and suggested comprehension questions for students.
- Page 2 presents a picture of a familiar event, showing characters involved in an activity within a specific background. Students look at this page while listening to the teacher talk about the picture (suggested text for the teacher's presentation is provided).
- Page 3 shows the background of the picture, with the characters, actions and objects separately illustrated as clues.
A detailed instruction guide is included at the beginning of the book.
The lessons will provide material for dozens of activities targeting language and literacy skills.
This book will be helpful to speech-language pathologists, reading specialists, special education teachers and educational specialists.
