Expanding and Combining Sentences
Teach students to construct interesting, expanded sentences giving descriptive information about people, objects and events. Tasks range from discussing a single character to generating sentences describing people and happenings at a complex event.
The book illustrates 32 separate events. For each event, a single picture is presented six times, with each picture featuring a different element in a different color. By the sixth picture, all descriptive components are colored. Responding to color cues, students learn to generate lengthy, complex sentences which include many descriptive phrases and clauses.
Also included is a lengthy section devoted to sentence combining, with techniques and practice material provided.
