Are you interested in providing classroom-based services? Using literature in your large and/or small group lessons? This book contains 100 lessons that are designed for use in classroom-based service delivery models. Each of the lessons is based on one or more selections of language-rich children’s literature.

The book presents:
  • 50 Specific Language Skill Lessons that target a wide range of language skills and incorporate resources commonly used by the SLP. The lessons are suitable for grades K-5.

  • Language skills include: absurdities, adverbs, antonyms, homonyms, adjectives, prepositions, negatives, vocabulary development, comparisons, possessive pronouns, inferences, similes, pragmatics, conjunctions, problem solving, sequencing, verbs, rhyming words, collective nouns, synonyms, irregular past tense, irregular plurals, and more!

  • 50 Thematic Language Lessons that feature one or more selections of children’s literature to present the vocabulary and concepts commonly used in language intervention by the SLP. The lessons are suitable for grades K-2.

  • Topics include: farm, zoo, body parts, clothing, seasons, holidays, colors, shapes, alphabet, counting & numbers, weather, action words, feelings, sports, meals, fruits, vegetables, musical instruments, careers, birthdays, bugs, garden, opposites, transportation, vacation & travel, and more!

  • Parent Information Sheets that provide home follow-up for the thematic language lessons with vocabulary lists and book references.

The books in each lesson were chosen based on their content, themes, popularity with teachers and students, and their current availability. (They are widely available through public library systems, in school libraries, at national bookstore chains, and through Internet retailers.)

These lessons are also highly effective with students being served through the Intervention Based Assistance (IBA) process, English as a Second Language students, and at-risk/non-identified students.
